You have a site on the web, but it isn’t helping you.  Your web site is probably something that, at one time, you poured a lot of money and time into.  You hired who you thought was a responsible designer (don’t worry, I did, too) and what you got was full of great copy, some flashy bells and whistles and a huge bill.  So you sat back and waited for the business to pour back in…and waited, and waited, and waited.

The Best Cold-Call Opening Line

My friend and mentor, Joe Bonura taught me that line. It is the most effective opening to a conversation when making cold calls I have ever run across.

My friend Mike is in sales for an international company. He makes phone calls to prospective clients every day to sell a magazine that helps his clients make more money. When they are not in, he leaves a great message that gets prospects to call him back…. frequently.

His message was once the basic:  “Hi, this is Mike. I am not in right now. Please wait for the beep and leave a short message. I will return your call shortly.”

Yeah, that is pretty lame...  And it sounds about the same as everybody else on the planet, too.

3.   Governmental organizations can increase their perception by public service training.  Remember, when you speak to one individual with a private company, you take their attitude as the attitude of the entire organization. 

 Southwest Airlines is known for delivering some of the best customer service in the airlines industry.  People like to fly this airline because the flights are cheaper AND they are entertaining.  Although Southwest doesn’t offer assigned seating and people are herded on and off each plane like cattle, they make the experience fun.  They even ask passengers to assist in cleaning up the plane before they leave for the sake of the next passengers who will fly.

What is Your Netflix?

As predicted, Netflix surpassed HBO in revenue for the second quarter of 2014.  Reed Hastings, President of the company posted the news to Facebook, noting that his company is still behind when it comes to profits and Emmys, but "we're honored to be in the same league." Netflix produced its own series, House of Cards.

1. Governmental organizations can streamline services using the internet.   

Recently I had a medical procedure.  The doctor’s office gave me the option of showing up 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment to fill out paperwork, OR filling it all out online in about 20 minutes prior to the appointment so I could show up on time.  I chose the online alternative, was taken back to the prep room immediately and got home an hour ahead of my schedule.  The staff told me at each point that they already had everything they needed and it sped up the whole process.  I was back to my daily routine in a shorter time!

Tablets Changing Restaurants

Are You Streaming?

Our family dined at a Chili's restaurant on a trip to Orlando last month.  To our surprise, the server told us we could order dessert and pay for our meal without even talking with her.  At each table was a tablet device for patrons to order, pay and play games on the device. 

Many restaurants are installing these devices.  At dining locations in airports all over the world more to offer table-side ordering.  You can even check on your flight status and get reminders when it is time to board.
