Tablets Changing Restaurants

Our family dined at a Chili's restaurant on a trip to Orlando last month.  To our surprise, the server told us we could order dessert and pay for our meal without even talking with her.  At each table was a tablet device for patrons to order, pay and play games on the device. 

Many restaurants are installing these devices.  At dining locations in airports all over the world more to offer table-side ordering.  You can even check on your flight status and get reminders when it is time to board.

Radio Shack is closing many outlets across North America.  A February 1991 sales flyer  listed items that were “must-haves,” including:  calculator, weather radio, alarm clock, pager telephone, answering machine, stereo headphones, video camera, tape recorder, camera, mobile cellular phone, global watch and computer.

McDonald's Needs Reinventing

Fresh off the news that a young woman was fired by McDonald's after she paid out of her pocket for a group of firefighters to eat,  I stopped by my neighborhood store.  My goal was to purchase a Medium "Micky D’s" sweet tea.  When I pulled up to the window and paid for the drink I was handed an Extra Large tea. “I only ordered a Medium,” I said.  She looked at me like I was another nuisance in her day and replied, “Look, they all cost the same thing!  Just take it!”  Then I got that look that you get when someone thinks they are smarter than you. 

“Would your manager approve of you wasting food and blaming the customers for not ordering what you want them to have?”  I got that look again.

You have as much time in a day as I do or anyone else does. What you do with the time you have and where you spend it is your choice. It is not to be managed, but savored with every bite.
